Defying Gravity from “Wicked”

There comes a time when you can no longer stifle the dreams and imaginings that have built up inside.  Your body has been giving you clues everyday.  Your astonishing  emotions are guiding with utter precision.  Even your mind gets-in-on communicating your inner desires.

At first, you don’t know what is happening.  You resist allowing these dreams to come to the surface because you have been taught to “be responsible”, “make a living”, “keep your nose to the grindstone”, etc. etc.  (I’m sure you have your own phrase to insert here!)

Soon you know that you cannot go on living this dazed, treadmill-like existence.  You’ve been noticing others talk about the possibility of creating a fulfilling life; you’ve seen Hallmark cards  poetically state that a better life is on its way; you’ve heard numerous people talk about living an exciting, intentional life.  These “clues” have been showing up and lovingly surrounding you to help you bring to the surface what was inside all along.  All of these events have brought you to verbalizing your first dream: “I want a bigger, fuller life!”

Congratulations!

So, here you are………Welcome to the Edge!

Now what?  Well, like all trips to the Edge, it’s wonderful to acknowledge where you are and what you have come to “know” about your life experience thus far.  The words, “Defying Gravity” from “Wicked” beautifully describe the prelude of your coming to the Edge.

Fellow “leapers”,  I dedicate these words to you….defying gravity2

“Something has changed within me

Something is not the same

I’m through with playing by the rules of someone else’s game

Too late for second guessing

Too late to go back to sleep

It’s time to trust my instincts….

Close my eyes……….and LEAP!

It’s time to try defying gravity

I think I’ll try defying gravity

And you can’t pull me down

I’m through accepting limits

Cuz someone says they’re so…

Tell them how I am defying gravity!”

Today’s “leaping” exercise:

Purchase “Defying Gravity” (or listen to this version) every morning before you begin your day. (I listen to this every morning in the car!)  Notice your feelings and intentions about the day prior to listening and after listening.  Be mindful of how it sets the tone for your day.  Decide you will do something today that you have never done before.  It can be small or it can be big.  Defying gravity is a habit, so just begin where you are at.  Tomorrow, you will find another opportunity to once again defy gravity.  Do it and begin today!
