Do you ever feel this way: ‘Inadequate, unloveable, unsettled because I am not where I want to be in life or any other I’m-not-enough thought? These ‘upstream’ thoughts feel especially disturbing for those of us who continually have the I-must-be-better button always turned in the ‘on’ position. We never seem to catch up. It’s an endless loop, isn’t it?
The ticket to getting off this merry-go-round: Give Yourself Permission!!!
Yes! Permission is the loophole that allows the oftentimes critical ego to cut you some slack! (This permission-granting is actually an effective and clever little trick; it works like this: Permission comes from the heart, not the ego. Because the ego is often fearful of new ideas and the possibility that it could be viewed as wrong, it will ‘allow’ this new thought because it knows it has an escape route – blaming the heart/soul for the idea). Works like a charm – a win/win for the ego and the heart AND the whole of you! (See permission list below)
So, whenever those ‘less-than’ thoughts crop up, simply give yourself permission to think newer, fresher, more loving thoughts. Create this daily habit and in about a month (or sooner), you will no longer need to give yourself permission as you will be well on the way to BECOMING it! (and your ego will now see this way of thinking as the new ‘normal’!)
The following is a permission list I made for a coaching client. Since then, it has become one of my favorite get-off-the-merry-go-round-and-cut-myself-some-slack tools! I enjoy using it everyday.
I give myself permission to see me differently
I give myself permission to think downstream thoughts – no matter the circumstances
I give myself permission to see the beauty of who I really am
I give myself permission to embrace my talents, interests, humor, joy, inner and outer beauty
I give myself permission to forgive me
I give myself permission to forgive my family
I give myself permission to let go of whatever no longer serves me (memories, thoughts, hurts, habits, relationships)
I give myself permission to break out of the old shell that no longer serves me and
I give myself permission to be ME – to let it come out and to live from the love that is inside me
I give myself permission to shine
I give myself permission to embrace the true, loving, loveable ME
I give myself permission to be the confident Me that is my soul
I give myself permission to Love ME – right now, just as I am
Today’s ‘Leaping’ Exercise: Read the Permission List out loud in front of a mirror (very important) twice each day for 28 days. After reading the entire list in the mirror for a few days, it is ok to focus on one or two that most resonate with you. As the days pass, notice the changes that are occurring within. This is a very important time to journal your feelings, thoughts and shifts that occur. your journal entries will show your growth and offer new perspectives. Have fun and relax!
