WE share life with each other. Life! with all its brilliance, surprise, delight, growth and challenge. WE learn and grow with each other and are supported with Love’s never ending flow.
A special friend from college, Lori Crow is experiencing a new journey and has graciously agreed to share her story with all of us. Lori, thank you for sharing your life and your approach to this journey. You are my inspiration; you have “Come to the Edge” and are flying……..your way. Thank you!
“I have often used a quilt as my analogy for life. Bright festive colors reflect joy, happiness, and success while the darker threads running through symbolize challenges, sorrow and pain. My quilt has so many brilliant colors; laughter, delight and bliss! It also has its share of dark threads; one of which I am weaving now. I was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called goblet cell carcinoma. I will be undergoing surgery soon to remove lymph nodes, part of my colon, and probably anything else deemed necessary. Time will tell if there needs to be chemotherapy or radiation. We are handed many roads in life that we would rather not travel and there is not one of us that has escaped from some sort of challenge or struggle. I look ahead, not with fear, but with interest and anticipation. What will happen? Who will I meet? What can I learn? I will not bring the color of worry into my quilt. I will mark this dark thread as a new journey; a step onto a staircase whose top I can not see. I am reminded of a quote by Dr.Martin Luther King; “Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” I also believe that the power of prayer is the strongest power on earth so I humbly ask for your prayers as I create my life’s quilt.”
Today’s “leaping” exercise: What colors and stories make up the quilt of your life? What threads of experience, thought and belief are woven there? Are there dark threads that can be transformed with Love? What steps can you take today to weave the threads of your brilliance and light into your quilt?
Sending light to Lori and to all of us weaving our precious quilts – Joan Kappes
