What Is It That You Really Like To Do?

Julie and Julia

This is the life changing question Paul Child asked his wife, Julia Child after moving to France in the 1950s. The answer flowed from her without hesitation, “EAT! That’s what I really like to do! I am good at it!” She followed her passion which led to a journey beyond her wildest imagination. Julia simply followed what felt joyous to her; she went with the flow and enjoyed life as it unfolded and expanded.  There was no grand plan. For her, it was about the journey – the process of researching, writing…. and eating! (‘Mastering the Art of French Cooking’ took 8 years from inception to publication.  There are now over 34 printings and 3 editions!).  Julia Child accepted Life’s invitation to “Come to the Edge Today”.  Wondering what to do with her life, she identified her joy and said “yes” to exploring it.  She leaped into her adventure and the rest, as they say, is history.

Today’s “leaping exercise”:
Ask yourself: “What is it that I REALLY like to do?”
Be honest! Be true! Let yourself really speak the answer! Write it down. Post it in your bathroom, in your wallet, on your desk and on the fridge. Let your imagination feel it, see it and touch it! Allow the dream living inside of you to come to the surface.  Let it grow in your mind and in your imagination.  Next, using your imagination, write as many action items as you can to begin living your dream now!  (Julia began by taking cooking lessons.  Julie, in the movie ‘Julie and Julia’ (based on a true story) began by cooking and blogging her way through ‘Mastering the Art of French Cooking’).  Enjoy, foster and grow your dream by ‘doing’ one of these action items each day, or as often as you can.  Commit!  Do it!  Experience your dream coming true and revel in how quickly it expands!julia
