Moon Blessing

When I was in college, I was a night ‘guard’ for an energy company, working the midnight to 8am shift.  Each hour, I was required to make the rounds.   So, for 25 minutes every hour, in the deep of night, it was just me and the moon.  We became ‘friends’ and I welcomed my companion’s gifts of constancy, light and feeling of safety.

When I read this beautiful poem (below) about the moon, it reminded me of those days and the nights since, when I open myself to its magic.  “Thank You” to my favorite poet and guy at “The Edge”, Steve Garnaas Holmes.

May you experience its peace and connect with its wisdom….

Moon Blessing

By Steve Garnaas Holmes

To you I wish

the peace of the moon,
who waxes and wanes
and is not troubled;

the beauty of the moon,
only partly seen
but always wondrous;

the silence of the moon,
who does not insist
if you do not notice;

the courage of the moon
who is not afraid
of her own darkness;

the steadiness of the moon,
who never gets caught
in the tricky branches;

the constancy of the moon,
who never forgets
to come back;

the wisdom of the moon
who sees clearly
when we close our eyes;

the faith of the moon
who is always full
to the sun.

The blessing of the moon
be with you.

Today’s “leaping” exercise:  Tonight, when the moon rises, bundle up (for those of you who live “up north”!) and spend time with the moon.  Print this poem if you are able, or read it prior to going outside.  Read it either aloud or silently.  Use all of your senses to experience the sky and the moon and your surroundings.  Listen with your heart………..What is it saying?  How much can you hear?  Record it in your journal and … repeat!

Love Is………

This reflection is dedicated to Eric and Tracy – two very special people in my life who recently passed from this physical life and have entered into their next journey as the fullness of Love.

Their physical life was, like ours, a journey…a quest for experiencing Love on this earth.  It took them many places; they had many experiences, some pleasant and some not so much.  Through it all, they learned of Love, expanded into Love, lived from Love and experienced the exquisite reality of Love.

We too, are on a similar quest.  Often, we ramble and feel lost and alone.  Sometimes we feel like Love is ‘out there’ and beyond our reach.  Yet, if we focus just a little, we begin to see evidence that there is much, much more to Love and we come to know that it is not ‘out there’ at all.

I’d like to share with you a few insights about Love discovered by fellow travelers who also have “Come to the Edge Today”.

May we re-member that we are made from Love, that we are surrounded by Love and that we are Love….now and always. –Joan Kappes

Love Is……

“Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion’s starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don’t see that. It seems to me that Love is everywhere. Often, it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it’s always there – fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit theTwinTowers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge – they were all messages of Love. If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find that love actually is… all around.” –from the film, Love Actually

“Love is, LIFE!!! It is everywhere and in everything. I believe that LOVE starts from within ourselves. When we have true love inside us we become wide open for true LOVE in our life.” – Danielle Daily

 “Love is the energy that binds us together and makes us whole”. –Joan Kappes

 “Love is the moment that hearts open and laughter or tears are the expression instead of words.  It is looking into your own eyes and seeing who you really are and you can’t help but smile from ear to ear.” – Cassandra Lyons

“Love is a force more formidable than any other.  It is invisible – it cannot be seen or measured, yet it is powerful enough to transform you in a moment, and offer you more joy than any material possession could.” -Barbara de Angelis

“Love is felt.  You know it when you feel it.” –Joan Kappes

 “Love is not what we become, but what we already are.” -Unk

 “Love is what I feel when I watch the sun rise, hold a baby or snuggle a puppy. It is the food of life, our breath, our smiles, our laughter. Love is what we are made of.” –Janet Nestor

“Love is a fruit in season at all times, and within reach of every hand.” -Mother Teresa

“Love is opening our heart and saying “Yes” to the joy, the pain, the grief, the bliss, the laughter, the sorrow and the beauty of letting ourselves be known, and of truly knowing another.” –Chelsea Beauchamp

“Since love grows within you, so beauty grows.  For love is the beauty of the soul.” -Saint Augustine

“Where love is, there God is also.” -Mahatma Gandhi

“We are surrounded by the only real energy there is: Love. We swim in it like a fish swims in water.   It flows in us and through us and as us.  Our journey is to become aware of it and re-claim it; and when we do…. Oh, what a life to be lived!” – Joan Kappes

Love does not need to be found, it just needs to be re-membered and claimed.” – Joan Kappes

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails. -1Corinthians 13:4-8

One More Circle Round the Sun

Sending you New Year blessings from “Come to the Edge Today”!  This year, let us  leap and soar in the experience of Who we really are!  Let us revel in the gift of L-I-F-E as we take ‘One More Circle Round the Sun’.

One More Circle Lyrics

We have been weighed down by sadness like a stone
And we have yearned, we have yearned
And we have sometimes felt so utterly alone
While we turn, while we turn

And we’ve been stricken by the wonder of it all
Stricken dumb, stricken dumb
And we have sometimes felt so faint we want to fall
Overcome, but all in all

CHORUS: I’d say this year in flight together has been fun
What say we make one more circle around the sun

We have raised our fists in anger and we’ve tried
To work it out, work it out
That we need each other, we cannot deny
There is no doubt, there is no doubt

So let us weave another dream in outer space
While we’re turning, while we’re turning
On this planet home that holds our human race
We still are learning, but all in all

I’d say this year in flight together has been a good, good one
What say we make one more circle One more circle
One more circle around the sun

Eagerly anticipating traveling with you – Joan Kappes

Breath of Heaven

I wrote this reflection last Christmas.  The journey, trust and faith of Mary and Joseph give me hope and courage this season as we embrace the families of Connecticut…….

Our lives have changed since celebrating Christmas last year.  Are you asking yourself and asking God, “What do I do?  How am I supposed to react to it, or more importantly, how can I create and grow with this new situation I find myself in?”  How can I be the sculptor with this new slab of clay before me?  How do I interact with it?  How do I create with You, the One who gave me the clay?

Mary and Joseph probably asked similar heart-felt questions. From “out-of-the-blue” they were presented with an invitation to “Come to the Edge” – an invitation to journey into a bigger life.  At first they were confused.  They asked questions and pondered, then both put their trust in the Inviter; they aligned, then took action. They were willing, active participants in their own lives and used their free will to say “yes” to an unknown path (not having our vantage point of knowing where their path would lead).

Sounds like us, doesn’t it?  Each of us has our own invitation to “Come to the Edge”.  We have our own journeys to Bethlehem – our own opportunities to ask questions, to ponder, align, then to create with the One who is eager to sculpt the clay with us as we too, journey into a bigger life.

The key phrase above is “With Us”!  We are not alone on our journey.  Heavens no!  We have the “Breath of Heaven” with us and in us!  This Breath is always here for us.  Life really gets “good” when we allow our lungs and our being to be filled with it.  With this “Breath of Heaven”, we L-I-V-E and leap and soar everyday, no matter the situation.

Mary and Joseph breathed it.

We can too.

Today’s “leaping” exercise:  Five years ago, my Dad was in the hospital over Christmas.  Each day I would travel 20 minutes to visit him; because I love Christmas music, I would daily play Amy Grant’s CD in the car.  As his health waned, I prayed for strength and an aligned attitude so our visit could be meaningful and life-giving for all of us.  “Breath of Heaven” became my driving prayer-song each day for 2 months.  Over time, I came to understand the depth of the refrain, “Breath of Heaven” – it became my mantra and its meaning for me is now beyond words.

Today’s exercise is to relax and focus on the lyrics, but specifically on the refrain “Breath of Heaven”.  When the song is complete, just lie quietly with your eyes closed and repeat the phrase, “Breath of Heaven”, “Breath of Heaven”, “Breath of Heaven”, until you feel you are complete.  Repeat each day.  Soon you will find you have reached new depths along the path with the One who journeys and creates with you……….Enjoy.

Merry Christmas – Joan Kappes

12/12/12 – A Day of Alignment

As we live this wonder-filled life at “The Edge”, we are gifted with help and direction every day! Today, December 12, 2012 (12/12/12), even more beautiful gifts are freely offered. Today contains the gifts of discovery and alignment!

12/12/12 is a Day of Alignment!  Yes, this date is historic.  We are experiencing 12/12/12 in our lifetime!,** provides an interesting  summary of these numbers and their possible meanings (see below).

Interesting?  Insighful?  Fun?  Yes!  But, what does this have to do with our everyday life?

For me, it is an “opportunity-gift” that offers us the time to reflect and make choices about who we are in the world and how we ‘live’ this life we have been given.

12/12/12 – a Day of Alignment.  But, alignment to what or who?

Alignment to who we truly are – who YOU truly are!  So often, we live our days on autopilot and respond hither and yon to whatever someone says about who we are.  But, the thing is, we have free will to choose to live as we truly are!

So, who are we?  Who are you?

This came to mind this morning and I want to share two of my favorite ‘reminders’ of who we are.  I learned the first, Desiderata, by Max Ehrmann when I was in 6th grade.  (It was our morning prayer led by our parochial school teacher).  The second is from a workshop led by my favorite teacher and mentor, Abraham/Hicks:

Desiderata – Words for Life by Max Ehrmann (Stanzas 6,7)

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive God to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

Who You Really AreAbraham/Hicks

“You don’t need to be better.  You just need to tend to your vibration and be who you really are.  And who you really are is really bright and smart with really good timing and wonderful intuitiveness and wonderful uplifting abilities.   Who you are is one who loves easily and thinks openly and expands profusely!  Who you really are is someone who adores life and who loves yourself and loves others – that’s who you really are!  Who you really are is an up lifter and an optimistic being who adores being here and who just cannot wait to get your hands in the creative clay of your life experience; because you know who you are and who you are is so wonderful.  Worthiness is not an issue.  You just expect wonderful things to happen to you and wonderful things have been happening to you and you know that wonderful things are continuing to happen.  That’s who you are….”

This is who YOU really are!

How to align with you and Source who adores you?

Today’s “leaping” exercise:  Alignment is a lifelong journey!  (That’s what ‘Come to the Edge Today’ is all about – the discovery and experience of alignment!)  Be patient, persistent and utterly devoted to the unfolding process.  Following are 12(!)* suggestions for opening up and aligning with You and God/Source within you who adores you!

  1. Give yourself permission to Love yourself vs criticism, loathing and not-enoughness
  2. Listen to your heart and follow it’s ‘downstream’ guidance vs listening to your ego and going the ‘upstream’ path
  3. Giving and receiving freely vs not giving or being open to receive
  4. Following your joy vs forcing yourself, acting out of ‘have-to’s’ and ‘shoulds’
  5. Trusting your heart vs not believing in your inner wisdom
  6. Thinking about how far you have come vs focusing on how far you have to go
  7. Focusing on what you want and love vs focusing only on what you don’t want
  8. Speaking of abundance vs talking about problems and lack
  9. Being aware and paying attention vs operating on autopilot
  10. Believing your dreams and passion are important (and acting upon them) vs the apathetic view of ‘my life isn’t working out’
  11. Clear intent and directed will vs vague or undefined goals
  12. Living a life of gratitude and appreciation vs not-enoughness and ‘why me’

*  Some suggestions are given from Orin/DaBen

**From   “According to Chinese numerology, the number one is a yang number which is ruled by the sun and represents independence and individualism. Two is a yin number which is ruled by the moon and represents symmetry and balance. When placed together, the number 12 brings harmony to the yin and yang, balancing the feminine energy of the moon with the masculine energy of the sun. So, what we can gather is that 12/12/12 equals lots of harmony.  Three is generally considered a heavenly number and often represents the soul or godhead. Four is the number of earth and mankind – for example, there are four elements (earth, air, fire, and water) and four cardinal directions (north, south, east, and west). Because of this, the product of the two numbers, 12, has been said to encompass both the secular and the sacred. So 12/12/12 should mean that both sides will be represented more than usual.”

Thankful for You!

This year, my thoughts are focused simply on You:  I am thankful for YOU.

YOU” ….that glorious word that encompasses all of us.

You are the smile of the stranger that greets me in the grocery store.  You are the greeting at Starbucks that says “Have a great day!!!”  You are the devoted person striving to bring peace to your corner of the world.  You are the politician striving to do your best.  You are the catalyst in my life helping me to be ‘more’.  You are the teenager, longing to be heard through newly discovered talent.  You are the baby, reminding me that we all are part of God.  You are the person determined to release resistance so wellness can come flooding through.  You are the one who shows me how to ‘let go’ of the oars so I can gently go with the flow of well-being.  You are the one who gives a thousand times a day….just because it feels good.   You are the one who shares your creativity and inspiration, making our world a better place.  You are the one who shares joy with the world.  You are the one who makes a difference by faithfully being who you are.  You are the piece of the puzzle that makes my life ‘picture perfect’.

I am thankful for You………Yes, You, for you are part of the Whole of which we all belong.

This wonderful video (below) beautifully reminds me of the Oneness that we all share as “You”, as “Us”, as “We”.  Enjoy!  Thanks to Matt Harding and Melissa Nixon for this amazing video!

Thankful for you – Joan Kappes

Election Results, A Cockatoo, An Ibex & You

Every subject is really two subjects – what is wanted and what is not wanted. Today is a perfect day to see and experience this.  Yesterday, U.S. citizens exercised our right to vote and today we are experiencing the results.  I thought it would be fun to play with this a little as there is much to be experienced from a ‘Come to the Edge Today‘ point of view!

If you are feeling jubilant about the outcome of the election, perhaps you feel like this Cockatoo (watch video below now)

If you are not pleased with the outcome, perhaps you feel like this Ibex (watch video below now)

(Over the span of my voting career, I have felt like both of these wonderful creatures!)

Today, I want to playfully offer some ideas for really living this experience and growing from it.

Today’s “leaping exercise” If you are feeling hope and joy and elation, NOW is a great time to ‘milk’ it and increase your vibration and good feelings!  For fun, watch the video again and dance with this darling bird!  Then, make a list of 10 things you are hopeful, joyful and elated about (it can be about the election or about any subject).  The point is to ‘milk’ feeling good.  Why?  Because, we get the essence of what we think (and feel) – so, if we are feeling good and deliberately focus on better feeling thoughts, more good thoughts will come which will lead to better life experiences (that’s the way it works, so might as well be deliberate about it)!

If you are feeling somewhat like the Ibex today, this is ok too.   When I feel this way, I give myself permission to ‘get it out’ and sulk and be crabby.  I give myself, for example, an hour or a day to get it out, knowing that once I do, I can refocus and move on.  So, for fun, play back the video and pretend you are the Ibex reacting to the outcome of the election.

Now, here is the really great part – if you want to feel better NOW,  you can!  Even though you are disappointed and perhaps fearful or resigned (or whatever you are feeling), you can refocus to feel better NOW!  Will you be dancing like the Cockatoo in 5 minutes?  No, but you can feel better than you do right now.

How to do this?  By refocusing using ‘general’ thoughts.  Simply, they are thoughts that are general in nature – they are not specific.  It’s THE best place to begin to feel better.  How to be general on any topic?

1.  Stay general in your thoughts when feeling bad – it will help turn your thoughts around, little by little.  Getting too specific with your thoughts when feeling down will just make it worse.  Following are some examples of ‘general’ thoughts surrounding the election.  As you read them, feel if any of them give you some relief.  Then, build upon those that give you relief.  General thought examples:

  • “I like living in the U.S. where each citizen has a right to vote”
  • “I am glad I voted”
  • “I know that Americans want the best for the country”
  • “Some years my candidates win and other years they do not…I know that this process has been in existence for 236 years.  It’s a good system.”
  • “Progress seems slow, but over time, I notice that we learn and grow as individuals and citizens”

Write 10 statements of your own that are general in nature, feeling for the thoughts that give you relief.  Feel the relief of them.  Focus on these thoughts and allow other ‘downstream’ thoughts come to you.  See what happens!

2.  I suggest a 4 minute process (which can be used around any subject), called “The Focus Wheel” process.  Click the link for a video on how to use this powerful process.

No matter how you are feeling now, choose to feel better, find thoughts that give your relief and the magic of the Universe will deliver more than you can imagine!

Oh, the freedom of choice! – Joan Kappes
