Well, I Declare…

Declare: (verb) Announce something clearly or loudly- to state something in a plain, open, or emphatic way

Decide: (verb) To make a choice or come to a conclusion about something

______________________________________________________________________________________

Today, let’s discover the power of declaration and the power of decision.  Why?  Because they will quickly lead you to “The Edge” of your dreams!

Who comes to mind when you think of the word, declaration?  Of course!  The signers of the Declaration of Independence; fifty-six men who shared a vision and declared (at the risk of high treason) the Colonies’ right to be free, independent states, absolved from all allegiance to the British crown!

Another  example:  In the ‘80’s, a dear friend of mine and I were sharing dreams for our life.  You know how these discussions go – this topic, that topic, on and on for hours.  Out of the blue, she declared this life-directing statement:  “I plan on living my life with financial abundance.  I just am.  I will always have enough – and more than enough”. These were not words of defiance or lack, simply a (profound) declaration of who she decided to be and who she will become.  Was she financially abundant or an expert at the time?  Hardly.  She was a new college graduate beginning one of those paying-your-dues type jobs.   Time has shown her declaration and decision of who she ‘is’ has manifested into a life of amazing financial abundance.   She has become her declaration.

Additional examples:  What makes Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa, Pancho Barnes, heroes such as Susan B. Anthony and Harriet Tubman and yes, even Zac, Aaron and Nick from “Ghost Adventures” memorable?

They declared who they are!  They said, “I AM”…….

Nelson Mandela – I am a person committed to creating full equality for all South African citizens

Mother Theresa – I am an advocate for the poorest of the poor

Pancho Barnes – I am a female pilot and will live my dream (no matter what)

Susan B. Anthony – I am an advocate for women’s rights and women’s right to vote

Zac, Aaron, Nick – I am living life on my terms, doing what I love –  hunting ghosts!

They decided.  They decided:

  1. Who they are
  2. What they want

WHY DOES THIS MATTER? Because declaring who you are creates the opening for guidance (from God/Source, the Universe, others and yourself), focus and direction – prerequisites for living your grand life!  It is a freedom that ‘clicks in’ and says “YES!  This is Me!”  It is the dance of your soul and your physical “you” (an experience you will want to encounter again and again).  It is a feeling of being “grounded” and “at home”. It is the feeling of “aliveness”.  And, pragmatically, when you declare who you are and what you want, focus enters your life instantaneously (an essential tool for creating the life of your dreams!)   The “hows” of life may not yet be known, but the “who” is, and this is what sets the wheels in motion for circumstances, people and events to come to you!

“Ok, but how do I begin?”  “What if I can’t think of anything?”  “What if I have many declarations?”  “What if I am not even close to the ‘me’ I want to be?”  “Do I have to tell anyone?”

Today’s “leaping” exercise:  “Come to the Edge Today” and be Bold!  Take a chance! Begin with general statements such as “I am loveable.  I am worthy.  I am abundant.  (These are important declarations because they are the foundation for life’s unfolding events.)  It is ok if you have specific or multiple declarations.  Remember, you do not have to have it all together beforehand (the founding fathers certainly did not).  There are no inappropriate statements; you are creating You and  there is no wrong answer in that!  If you feel  uncomfortable at first, it’s all right; new “clothes” often take a bit to get used to.  You can trust that as soon as you make your announcement, this expanded version of You has begun!  (Pretty exciting, really…)

Three very important steps:

1.  Make your declaration in writing (like our 1776 heroes).  Use the Proclamation below or create your own.  (Free certificates are available online).

2.  Verbalize your decision.   Read it (with feeling) to yourself in the mirror.   Reading it to a trusted friend is also very helpful.  Remember that the spoken word is very powerful, so use it to your advantage.

3.  Repeat at least 3 times each day (12-100 times is better)!

Unfolding Your Rose

We are “Come to the Edge Today” people, striving to live our lives to the fullest, answering daily invitations to grow and expand.  Because this is who we are, we look for new insights, new inspirations, new beginnings.  We are determined and resolved to make changes.  Like you, I have expanded visions and dreams for my life.  Mindful of these dreams, I began reading and journaling; I’d like to share with you some of the insights I uncovered.  As the words began to flow onto the page, I could feel the resonance of them flowing from deep within.  I share them with the hope that you will find their meaning too.

Reflections:  Unfolding My Rose

It began with these quotes from “The Dance” by Oria Mountain Dreamer:

“What if your contribution to the world and the fulfillment of your own happiness is not dependent upon discovering a better method of prayer or technique of meditation, not dependent upon reading the right book or attending the right seminar, but upon really seeing and deeply appreciating yourself and the world as they are right now?”

“What if the task is simply to unfold, to become who you already are in your essential nature – gentle, compassionate, and capable of living fully and passionately present?”

“What if the question is not why am I so infrequently the person I really want to be, but why do I so infrequently want to be the person I really am?”

“What if becoming who and what we truly are happens not through striving and trying but by recognizing and receiving the people and places and practices that offer us the warmth of encouragement we need to unfold?”

These quotes “wowed” me with their truth.  And then I read this:

“Because you have no faith that who you are is enough”.

I was thrown off my chair with the truth and depth of this simple sentence.  “Because you have no faith that who you are is enough”.  Take some time to consider this!  Isn’t this at the core of how we live so much of our lives?  We do, relate, buy, prove, disprove, etc. etc. because deep down, we think there is something missing, something lacking in who we are.  We see ourselves as broken.  We think we are not enough.

What if nothing is broken?  What if our lives are part of the grand Whole and living is an opportunity for unfolding the gift that is already present?

This revelation that I am “enough” is a lifelong unfolding process – unfolding layer upon layer of the Wholeness that is already “me”.  It is like unfolding the pedals of a Rose.

“Now” is my opportunity for learning and allowing “me” to come forth.  It’s not about ‘becoming’ anything – it’s about the discovery of ‘being’.  There is nothing to overcome or to mend.  There is only revealing and unfolding of the me that ‘is’.  There is nothing to improve.  There is only unfolding.

My life, my world then, becomes a treasure chest to explore rather than something broken to be fixed.  And, if nothing is broken in me, then nothing is broken in you either.  My relationship with you and everyone in my world is about the unfolding of seeing you as you really are too.

There is nothing to improve.  There is only unfolding.

Let us “Come to the Edge TODAY” with the intention to experience and ‘know’ that “Who I am is enough”.

Today’s “leaping” exercise:  Spend minutes, hours, days considering the following questions.  Ponder, journal, meditate, ‘unfold’ these questions:

What does it feel like to know that ‘all I am is enough’?  What will it look like to experience the unfolding of my Rose?  How will I see and interact with you if all I see is the unfolding of your Rose?

You are a perfect Rose to be unfolded and discovered, as am I – Joan Kappes

A ‘Good Friday’ Love Song

Good
Friday

A day of reflection. A day to focus. A day to ponder. A day to declare our beliefs. A day to give thanks.

Today is a good day for experiencing this Universal Truth: We are Loved. We are Loved. We are Loved!

It is a perfect day to bask in the unconditional Love pouring Itself upon us 24/7. Our perception and experience of this Love is unique resulting in an amazing storyboard we call the human experience. Such a gift.

Are we open to seeing this Love which constantly flows, so we can allow it to touch us?

This beautiful love song, “When You Say You Love Me” by Josh Grobin, is one of my favorite “spiritual” songs – a Love song between God/Source and me. This is my Good Friday gift to you. Revel in the Love that awaits you through its harmony and words. May it deepen your experience of the unconditional Love that is so freely given – to You.

Blessings for a GOOD Friday – Joan Kappes

If You Dream It, They Will Come

Give yourself a 14 minute inspirational ‘vacation’; watch and experience “Eric Whitacre: A Virtual Choir 2,000 Voices Strong”.  My daughter sent me this video and it moved me beyond words…

“In my entire life I had seen in black and white and suddenly, everything was in shocking Technicolor.”  Eric Whitacre

Don’t settle for less, dear travelers!  You have “Come to the Edge TODAY” so go for YOUR dream!  As this beautiful story illustrates, the fulfillment of any dream is possible and can happen if you:

  • Allow yourself to acknowledge your dream
  • Declare yourself worthy to have it
  • Act upon inspiration as it comes to you

Play with your dreams and inspirations!  Watch and participate in the amazing unfolding of your creation!  If Eric Whitacre,  a college student who joined the choir because of the good looking Sopranos and a paid Mexico trip can create his dream, YOU can create yours too!

Today’s “leaping” exercise:  Find a comfortable place where you can be uninterrupted for 10-15 minutes.  Quietly listen to the second recording (timeline: 12:15 on the video).  Close your eyes and image your dream flowing in and out of the 2,000 voices (who are at that moment, also participating in their dream).  Allow yourself to be enveloped by the voices and your dream.  Listen several times or as many as you are inspired.  Next, write your dream and any inspiration for action in your journal.  Repeat this daily and allow your dream to come to life on the journal’s page.  Declare it, act upon it, joyfully anticipate and expect the unfolding!

If you dream it, your song can be sung too – Joan Kappes

How To Feel Better In Just 4 Minutes

Imagine you are extremely upset about something that just happened and you are “hopping mad”!  Soon after this upsetting event, someone comes along and says, “Don’t worry, be happy!”  Your immediate reaction – you want to punch them or at least, have them leave your sight – Right?

They’re just trying to be helpful, so why do we react to them in this way?  We want them to ‘go away’ because it is impossible for us to make the emotional leap from anger to joy or happiness.  It’s too big of a jump.

So, if we can’t jump that far, how do we become “unstuck”?  How do we move from a negative state to an improved one?

The “Come to the Edge Today” recommendation is… Take baby steps!  Baby steps are natural and doable.  Just as a baby progresses from crawling to standing to walking, we can begin at whatever emotional state we are in and take a baby step toward feeling just a little better, then another emotional step to feeling a little better from that point, and so on.

The quickest, most effective “baby step” tool is the “Focus Wheel”.  It can be done anywhere, anytime and is guaranteed to help you feel better in about 4-10  minutes!  Once you develop the habit of using it, not only will you feel better, in time, your entire outlook will improve – really!

Watch this fabulous video below for easy step by step instructions!  Special thanks to Abraham/Hicks, creator of the Focus Wheel tool and Arvind Singh, creator of the “how to” video.

Today’s “leaping” exercise:  Make several copies of the Focus Wheel (so they are readily available when you want to achieve a better feeling state).  Practice using the Focus Wheel immediately after watching the video.  Be clear how you are feeling; from this starting point, use the Focus Wheel with the intention of improving how you are feeling.  It doesn’t matter if your starting point is anger, joy or anywhere in between; there is always room for feeling better!  Below is a scale illustrating suggested emotional baby steps (ex. moving from optimism to positive expectation.  Taken from Abraham/Hicks:  Ask and it is Given, p. 297)

  1. Joy/Knowledge/Empowerment/Freedom/Love/Appreciation
  2. Passion
  3. Enthusiasm/Eagerness/Happiness
  4. Positive Expectation/Belief
  5. Optimism
  6. Hopefulness
  7. Contentment
  8. Boredom
  9. Pessimism
  10. Frustration/Irritation/Impatience
  11. Overwhelment
  12. Disappointment
  13. Doubt
  14. Worry
  15. Blame
  16. Discouragement
  17. Anger
  18. Revenge
  19. Hatred/Rage
  20. Jealousy
  21. Insecurity/Guilt/Unworthiness
  22. Fear/Grief/Depression/Despair/Powerlessness

Your Golden Ticket

Last night, while channel surfing, we happened upon the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Roald Dahl) starring Johnny Depp.  Charlie just found the last of the 5 Golden Tickets and was now able to claim his ultimate boyhood dream, visiting Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.  The family was overjoyed at the find!  In the next scene, Charlie became serious and announced that, due to their extreme poverty, he intended to sell the ticket in exchange for money to help support the family.  Grandpa spoke up with great wisdom and said to Charlie:  “ There’s plenty of money out there. They print more every day. But this ticket, there’s only five of them in the whole world, and that’s all there’s ever going to be. Only a dummy would give this up for something as common as money. Are you a dummy?”  Charlie recognized the grandfather’s wisdom and said “YES!” to claiming his lifelong dream.

In that brief moment, Paul (my husband) and I both “got it”!  The questions before us:   Are we willing to embrace our Golden Ticket?  Are we willing to Come-to-the-Edge-Today and claim it? (Wow.)

What is YOUR Golden Ticket?  What is your Passion living deep within your heart and soul?  What is your dream that refuses to be silent?  What is it that you know you must experience in this lifetime?  Take some time to re-member or discover what this is – your heart will remind you if you forgot.

Here’s the fabulous news:  YOUR Golden Ticket (the opportunity of experiencing your ultimate dream) awaits you and is being offered to you NOW!  God/Source has it already prepared with your name on it.  All you need to do is claim it and be willing to go on the journey to get it.

Is something stopping you from claiming it?  Perhaps it is fear, or the reality of ‘what is’.  Maybe it’s ‘practicality’ or listening to other’s opinions about your life.  Could it be you don’t like to stray out of your comfort zone? Here’s a huge stopper: Holding false beliefs such as ‘I am not worthy’, ‘it can’t be that easy’, ‘I must pay my dues’, ‘I am not ready’, on and on…

Listen to Grandpa’s wisdom:   There will always be practicalities and illusions of coulda/shoulda.  You are holding the ticket in your hand!!  Do you feel its sweetness in your hand?  (Yes, I’m talking to you, dear reader!  Do you feel the sweetness of the Ticket in your hand?)  Today is the day to declare “Enough!  I am claiming MY Golden Ticket!  I do not know how it will unfold, but I am claiming my dream – my Golden Ticket, NOW!”

Today’s “leaping” exercise:  What is the passion you always carry with you?  Claim your Golden Ticket by clearly declaring it to yourself and to God/Source.  Verbalize it.  Write it and post it everywhere.  Embrace it.  Be open to inspired action, then act!  Be persistent in claiming it each day!  Remember, you ARE worthy of experiencing it – Now.

Now you’re at “The Edge”!  – Joan Kappes
